Round 10 Preview v Swan Districts

Friday, May 20, 2016 - 6:49 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle broke some records last time at Steel Blue Oval earlier this season and now the Bulldogs return to Bassendean needing to win on Saturday over Swan Districts to ensure they remain on top of the WAFL ladder.

It's bottom against top when Swan Districts hosts South Fremantle for the second time this season at Steel Blue Oval but with some nasty weather predicted and a youthful Swans not afraid of the challenge, the Bulldogs will need to watch out for the upset.

South Fremantle has been tremendously impressive so far this season winning seven of its eight games to currently sit on top of the WAFL ladder with a percentage of 147.3 on the back of being the highest scoring team (97 points) and conceding the least amount (66).

Edwards making the most of his move to Bulldogs

Thursday, May 19, 2016 - 9:54 AM - by Chris Pike

STEVEN Edwards has proven a great success story so far in his first season with South Fremantle and after having a family connection to the Bulldogs, he had a pull to join the club and he's glad he made the move after crying out for more opportunities at Claremont.

Edwards made his league debut with Claremont back in 2013 and after showing good signs in 2014 as a creative running half-back playing seven league games, he couldn’t crack it for a league appearance in 2015 despite some strong reserves form right throughout the year.

That left him wondering where his football future lied at the end of 2015 but when South Fremantle showed an interest, and with his grandfather a former player of the Bulldogs and the Collard family working to sell the club to him, it soon became his preferred choice.

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 9

Tuesday, May 17, 2016 - 4:17 PM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the 41-point victory over Peel Thunder at Fremantle Community Bank Oval that keeps the Bulldogs on top of the WAFL ladder ahead of a clash with the bottom placed Swan Districts this Saturday.

QUESTION: You knew they would provide tough opposition but the way you were able to answer every time they challenged and then kick away with the last seven goals must have been pleasing?
ANSWER: I thought it was a big challenge for us. Clearly their numbers in contested ball and the hard ball, and clearances are pretty good so it was a big challenge. Obviously they have a few big bodies and AFL-experienced mids in there, and it's never easy to score against them. We hung in there and when the game opened up a bit late we were able to score, which was good.

Bulldogs celebrate Cook's 100th in style over Thunder

Monday, May 16, 2016 - 12:05 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle delivered a stunning finish to Saturday's game against Peel Thunder at Fremantle Community Bank Oval kicking the last seven goals to win by 41 points to retain top spot on the WAFL ladder and celebrate captain Ryan Cook's 100th game.

It was a game of runs from the outset with Peel kicking the first two goals only for South Fremantle to answer back with the next two of the first quarter, and then the first three of the second to go on a five-goal run to lead by 20 points.

But the Thunder answered back with the last three of the first half to trail by two points.

Then Peel kicked the first two of the last quarter to be back within two points after South Fremantle broke away by 15 points at three quarter-time, but it was the Bulldogs who had the last say with seven goals in the final 15 minutes to run away with the 16.11 (107) to 9.12 (66) victory.
