Player Column – Adam McIntosh Round 13

Thursday, June 15, 2017 - 4:28 PM - by Adam McIntosh

IT is fair to say last week was an interesting one for us as a team and two games within five days couldn’t have turned out too much different after our big win in the derby and then a disappointing loss to Peel on Saturday.

We obviously couldn’t have been too much happier with the way things went in the derby. It's the biggest win I've been part of and to do it on such a big day of the season in front of a good crowd was something that was very enjoyable for us all.

But we knew we had to back up quickly on Saturday against Peel and that couldn’t have turned out much more different for us. We had kicked 10 goals in the first quarter in the derby, but Peel kicked five against us in the first quarter on Saturday and 10 for the first half to be pretty much eight goals in front. We did fight back and gave ourselves a chance late in the game when we got scores level, but then we just seemed to stop again and that was disappointing.

COMING off the high from the second greatest derby victory in history, South Fremantle looks to back it up against the reigning premiers Peel Thunder at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

Last time the two teams met at Fremantle Community Bank Oval was in last year's preliminary final. On that occasion, Peel prevailed by 39 points on its way to the maiden premiership breakthrough to end the season of the Bulldogs.

Player Column – Tim Kelly Round 12

Friday, June 9, 2017 - 11:18 AM - by Tim Kelly

IT has been a big couple of weeks and when I was asked to put together this week's column, I thought I'd take a look back to our State Game win in Melbourne and then the derby on Monday.

Obviously with the State Game this year there was a lot of anticipation about it simply of the fact that we could make history. No doubt I did want to be part of it and I was really happy when I found out I was going to play.

I've never been able to travel to play a game of footy before so it was a first-time experience for me and I enjoyed every bit of it. I roomed with Schloithe for the trip and it was nice being roomed with one of the South boys that I knew.

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley WA Day

Thursday, June 8, 2017 - 9:16 PM - by Matt Barnsley

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the Bulldogs 145-point WA Day Foundation Derby win over East Fremantle and looking ahead to this Saturday's home clash with Peel Thunder.

QUESTION: You would have been hoping and expecting to bounce back, but not to that degree?
ANSWER: Definitely not, but I think a few of the things we practiced we certainly were better at.  Obviously it was as good a four-quarter performance that we’ve put in for a while. It was good to bounce back.

Q: You must be pleased that again you showed when you had a team down, you were really able to ram home your advantage?
A: I think scoreboard pressure’s important as much as we say the scoreboard is always irrelevant until the end. I think if you can get scoreboard pressure on early then obviously, there’s not that pressure of trying to come from behind. Then the things that you’ve probably planned during the week then you’ve got to start trying to fix things. Our boys trained really well over the break and I thought their preparation before the game they were pretty eager to make up for the couple of weeks before.
