Round 10 Preview v Perth

Friday, June 8, 2018 - 8:49 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle has still not lost to Perth since Kris Miller's 300th game and hasn’t lost at Lathlain Park in five years heading into Saturday's WAFL Round 10 clash against the Demons.

South Fremantle consolidated second position on the WAFL ladder with a 73-point WA Day Foundation Derby win as the Bulldogs now head to Lathlain Park where they have won five straight and up against an opponent in the Demons who they have won eight in-a-row against.

Perth might have won just two games so far in 2018 to be sitting in second last position on the ladder, but that doesn't quite tell the whole story of the competitiveness of the Demons.

Player Column – Cory Dell'Olio 100 Games

Friday, June 8, 2018 - 3:41 PM - by Cory Dell\'Olio

IT was great to reach the 100-game milestone for South Fremantle on Monday and it made it even better to celebrate with a win in a derby. It is something I have been looking forward to ever since returning back to the club in 2015.

It was a long time ago back in 2008 when I debuted and to finally reach the 100 games after 10 years of senior footy is something I am very proud of. To finally be on the locker with some greats including Matty Clucas, who was a player I looked up to and watched when I was a young kid, is awesome.

It absolutely means a lot to me. I grew up going for this club along with all my family and to not only play one league game which was an original goal of mine but to reach 100 and put my name on the #3 locker with some great names is very special.

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley WA Day

Friday, June 8, 2018 - 8:20 AM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the Bulldogs' 73-point WA Day Foundation Derby victory against East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

QUESTION: We talked last week about how this group usually responds well to a disappointing performance and they certainly did that?
I thought it was a good response. We started really well and kicked the first eight goals. But to lose our captain and obviously Shane Hockey, one of our leaders, pretty late and to go in with eight players with 16 or less games was really pleasing. I thought we defended much better than we have.

Q: A four quarter performance to come away with a 12-goal win against a team that you do have the wood over, but would have come into the game with some confidence?
I thought our first half especially was pretty good. There was a patch in the third quarter we probably got away from the way we wanted to play, but we certainly switched on again late. It was really pleasing, but we do have another couple of sore boys and we'll see how they pull up. It was pleasing though.

Bulldogs bite back with dominant Foundation Derby showing

Tuesday, June 5, 2018 - 3:18 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle emphatically bounced back from last week's loss to Claremont with yet another dominant showing against East Fremantle beating the Sharks by 73 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in the WA Day Foundation Derby.

Coming off a surprise loss to Claremont on home turf last week that saw the Bulldogs' five-game winning run come to an end, South Fremantle responded in the best possible way in the 2018 version of the WA Day Foundation Derby.

Despite East Fremantle coming off its second win of the season last Saturday beating Peel, it was all South Fremantle on Monday with the Bulldogs quickly coming out of the blocks kicking the game's opening eight goals.

WA Day Foundation Derby Preview

Sunday, June 3, 2018 - 1:31 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle has won five straight clashes with East Fremantle by an average of 71 points but not won a WA Day Foundation Derby since 2008 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The Bulldogs have won five straight and eight of the last nine games against the Sharks, but not in the Foundation Derby on home turf since a 29-point triumph back in 2008.

Now with South Fremantle also hungry to bounce back from a surprise loss to Claremont last Saturday, the Bulldogs will have plenty of reasons to come out hungry on Monday against the Sharks.

Player Column – Jarrod Parry Cory Dell'Olio Tribute

Saturday, June 2, 2018 - 1:47 PM - by Jarrod Parry

IT will be an exciting WA Day on Monday for our big clash against East Fremantle. Even more special to celebrate Cory Dell’Olio’s 100th game for the South Fremantle Football Club.

It’s a fantastic achievement to play 100 games for a terrific club, but even more special after the many years it has taken to reach this number. Through the ups and downs of being on an AFL list, getting delisted, then suspended for a year – anyone would find it difficult to stay positive and stick at doing something they are good at. The perseverance shown by Del is a real credit to his attitude and the type of person he is.

Del finds the balance between training, playing, working and socialising really well. Once crossing that white line, for training or playing, it’s business as per usual, leading by example as this big barrel chested Italian shuffles his way around the ground. I believe the smaller the player, the more popular they are with the fans. It’s unsure why, maybe it’ the short fuse and small-man-syndrome they suffer from. This fiery attitude is what his teammates love.

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 8

Thursday, May 31, 2018 - 10:49 AM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the Round 8 WAFL loss to Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

South Fremantle's five-game winning streak came to an end with the six-point defeat at the hands of the Tigers with the Bulldogs now preparing to host the WA Day Foundation Derby against East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval this Monday.

QUESTION: You gave yourselves a chance to win the game at the end obviously, but it just felt like you never quite got going?
Full credit to them, they made it hard for us to play but you can't play 30 minutes of footy and expect to win. We had a bit of a patch in the second quarter and towards the end, but to be honest there was too much left to too few. We had too many guys who flashed in and out, and didn’t contribute for long enough.

Bernie Naylor enters Australian Football Hall of Fame

Thursday, May 31, 2018 - 7:47 AM

WHILE the Victorian media might be proclaiming him the John Coleman of Western Australia, make no mistake Bernie Naylor's goalkicking exploits came first and the South Fremantle legend took his rightful place in the Australian Football Hall of Fame this week.

The goalkicking feats of Naylor are legendary and he ended up kicking 1034 goals for South Fremantle in 194 matches between 1941 and 1954, with a four-year gap because of World War II.

While kicking a record 23 goals in a game along the way, he was six-time league leading goalkicker, nine-time South Fremantle leading goalkicker and a fairest and best winner in 1953.

Bulldogs downed by Tigers on last goal of the game

Tuesday, May 29, 2018 - 3:34 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle kept fighting and drew level late in the game against Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday but the Bulldogs couldn't quite win a sixth straight game with the Tigers kicking the game's last goal to win by six points.

South Fremantle came into Saturday's contest having both won five straight matches this WAFL season and having won the last four against Claremont including earlier this season already in a country fixture in Albany.

Claremont came into the game with just the one win for the season and that was with the last kick of the game against East Fremantle, but the Tigers were a vastly more competitive outfit than that all suggested.
