Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 6

Wednesday, April 27, 2016 - 10:31 PM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the thrilling ANZAC Derby win over East Fremantle and looking ahead to this Saturday's clash of the undefeated teams against Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

QUESTION: You did look on top for most of the day but couldn't finish them off in front of goal. Then you had to find something late after they hit the front and you found a way to win?
ANSWER: Full credit to them for keeping on coming all day, which we discussed that they would do. We probably didn’t finish off as well as we would have liked to keep the door open and they almost came charging in but it was really pleasing that we responded in the last couple of minutes to get over the line.

Q: The last couple of minutes was pretty hectic after Perham kicked a goal to put them in front. But Schloithe found some space to take a mark and somehow put it through and then you held on?
A: It was pretty pleasing. We haven’t had a real close result this year or played in that sort of pressure. I thought we dealt with it OK when we were behind and when we got in front. It was a good learning experience for a lot of our guys, but we still have a lot to work on which is also pleasing.

Higgins return another positive for unbeaten Bulldogs

Thursday, April 21, 2016 - 4:31 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle ruckman Brock Higgins made a successful return from a calf injury in the reserves on Saturday and hopes to build on that in coming weeks to push for a comeback to the undefeated league side before too long.

Higgins cemented himself as the Bulldogs' No. 1 ruckman throughout the 2015 season in his second year with the Bulldogs since crossing from East Perth where he previously played 31 WAFL matches.

But his late pre-season campaign coming into 2016 was interrupted by a troublesome calf injury that he wasn’t able to shake until last week.

Player Column – Haiden Schloithe Round 5

Wednesday, April 20, 2016 - 1:04 PM - by Haiden Schloithe

OBVIOUSLY we couldn’t ask for a better start to the season to be 4-0. We've played pretty well in the four games but we did start 3-0 last year.

So it was really important that we came out on Saturday and performed really well against Perth just so we didn’t have the same things happen that did last year. We've now started 4-0 but we all know it means nothing if we don’t come out and play well again this weekend.

Our structure all over the ground has been really impressive so far this year. Pullman going down back has been a really good move and he's looked real solid, and Blayno is back to his best but it's not just those two. Everyone else down back is probably playing career-best footy. And then having Mase coming back is massive up forward for Saundo because it takes some pressure off him. It was great to see Mase get the rewards on Saturday.

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 5

Wednesday, April 20, 2016 - 12:53 PM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the Round 5 WAFL victory by 98 points over Perth at Lathlain Park and looking ahead to this Saturday's Anzac Derby at ATOM Stadium.

QUESTION: You got off to a flying start again like you have all season but it must have been especially pleasing to finish off the way you did and win by almost 100 points?
ANSWER: It's probably more about the way we played I think. I thought it was a bit of an arm-wrestle for the first half of the first quarter, but we hung in there and absorbed their pressure, and were able to put scoreboard pressure on late in the first quarter. That allowed us to dictate the game, but I thought the boys were really good and it was an even performance.

Player Column – Ryan Cook Round 4

Friday, April 15, 2016 - 1:57 AM - by Ryan Cook

OUR 2016 season has started exactly how we would have liked. As a club it is the perfect start and to have all three grades going three from three just shows we are headed in the right direction.

I believe there are a number of reasons why this is the case. The club has got great people involved with it from the board level to the players and coaches and our support staff. We have developed a one club culture where everyone feels like they belong which goes a long way to getting everyone working towards our goal of winning premierships.

We are into our second year under Coach Todd Curley and believe we understand his message and style now really well as a group and feel if we go through the processes that have been put in place by him and the other coaches and execute our style more than not we will be singing the song at the end of the game.
