WAFLW PRE-SEASON CAMP
Venue is everything, when wanting a positive experience, the Legacy Camp in Busselton certainly delivered for our senior WAFL-W players, who spent the weekend (Feb 4th-5th) on site for their pre-season camp.
Pre-season football camps vary in their purpose and whilst 50% of the participants were new players to the squad, there was not an individual focus, more about setting team standards, team goals, with a focus on team bonding.
South Fremantle Football Club is the "Premier Family Club", with camp activities/education all about challenging the group, whilst being positive and inclusive, with care & respect.
The weekend started early Saturday, car-pooling the chosen method of travel for the players. With a 2.5hr drive to Busselton ahead, vehicle activities set to fill in the time. Photo’s required, football topic’s to be discussed, as well as a poem about pre-season, all to be shared later with the travelling party.
On arrival (a beautiful day, a glorious beach), players committed to goal setting, a training session as well as further education on important matters in preparation for the 2023 Season.
Saturday night brought about group discussions and brainstorming on Team Goals, Standards and ‘Trademark’, being the standards, they will hold themselves and those around them throughout the year. A super positive session, that ended with group poems and photos and a good amount of humour.
Activities were continued early Sunday morning, a gruelling session in the sand, a cross between circuit training and a survivor session, was complimented with further time in the classroom, but not before a well earned plunk in the ocean was enjoyed (whilst trying to avoid the stingers).
A great experience enjoyed by all, venue the key, a huge thank-you to the team at Legacy for having us for the weekend ……. a superb location.
