HAMISH FREE & STEELY GREEN DRAFTED
South Fremantle has have once again had two players enter the AFL system with ruckman Hamish Free and exciting young gun Steely Green selected in th draft. Free went Rookie Pick No.19 to North Melbourne while Green went No.55 to the Tigers.
HAMISH FREE
A hard-working tall, Hamish Free has spent the past two years playing for South Fremantle in the WAFL, where he played 29 senior games, including 18 this year. After taking on the position as No.1 ruck in 2022, the 24-year-old was an imposing force averaging just over hit outs per game and 12.2 possessions.
With his experience at senior level, Free could prove to be a valuable addition to North's up and coming side.
STEELY GREEN
Richmond has used its second selection (No. 55 overall) in the 2022 national draft to recruit South Fremantle midfielder/small defender Steely Green.
Green, 18, arrives at the Swinburne Centre after an eye-catching season in the WAFL, averaging 18 disposals and four tackles per game at senior level.
What the Richmond recruiters say about Green...
"Steely is a product of the South Fremantle Football Club, playing 11 WAFL Colts games in 2021. After a strong pre-season, he made his league debut for South in Round 1 against Subiaco, gathering 25 disposals in a strong display.
"A member of the WA U18 Nationals team, he played four games and then went on to play eight league games for South Fremantle. Another highlight of his year was his Round 20 league performance against Perth where he gathered 31 disposals, 11 of which were contested, to go with seven tackles and eight inside-50s.
Congratulations to both Hamish and Steely. South Fremantle wishes you both all the best with your seasons ahead.
