South Fremantle Women do it again with two wins v East Perth

Monday, May 27, 2019 - 4:37 PM

THE first night game for the year on Friday was a great success with both South Fremantle Women's teams coming up against strong sides from East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

In the senior team, Leo O’Kane’s 100th game was one to remember, as she kicked two majors and contributed to the forward-line pressure all night.

It was a great final game for Sharna Freeman who had a chance to finish with a major after the siren but unfortunately, she was just beyond her distance.

Other great efforts of the night came from Mel Silcock who is finding her feet through the midfield taking eight intercept marks.

'Flash' was strong through the middle and provided drive into the forward-line with the back-line again standing up strong and creating plenty of run and drive forward.

It was great getting another win on the board, the senior team defeating East Perth 3.6 (24) to 3.2 (20).

In the Youth Girls' Rogers Cup contest, prior to the game the coaches could see the girls were switched on and looking forward to being under lights at home.

The girls played to the structures and the scoreboard reflected how well they played and how dominant they were for the full game.

Led by Strom in the ruck and well backed up by Ward, the Bulldogs had dominance around stoppages with Hunt, Coventry, Bantik, Clarkson and Artemis running hard all over the ground.

Lantzke provided an inspirational chase down late in the game deep in the forward pocket, won a free kick, then played on and kicked the goal of the day on the run from the boundary line.

Payne kicked three goals in a cameo performance in the forward-line.

The back-line held up all night and even though East Perth went inside-50 on 12 occasions for the game, South Fremantle still kept them scoreless.

All the defenders worked together for four quarters and made coach Deanne very proud, recording the Rogers Cup win 8.12 (60) to 0.0 (0).

It was a great way to finish an impressive performance from both teams who are now planning for Saturday's blockbuster derbies against East Fremantle.
